Classifieds FAQ

Tips for Using the Rotax-Owner Classifieds

How do the classifieds work?

The Rotax-Owner Classified Ads section is visible to anyone who views the site, whether logged in or not. All ads are viewable to the general public.

Ad postings are classified into four categories: Aircraft for Sale, Engines for Sale, Aircraft Parts, and Aircraft Services.

To post an ad, you must be logged in with your Rotax-Owner paid subscription. (Free members can view but cannot post ads.) Every paid subscriber can post up to four ads at a time, and each ad runs for 30 days.

By using the Classifieds Ad section, you are agreeing to the Rotax-Owner Classifieds Terms Of Use.

How do I browse the classifieds?

Click on the CLASSIFIEDS dropdown and select "Browse Classifieds". You will see the Category headings listed to the right of the map, as well as below the map. Clicking on any Category will immediately display all ads in that category in a list below the map. (The map will also update to show only the items in the selected category.)
The category list may have many pages of ads, and you can use the 'Pagination' controls ( ) at the bottom of the page to browse through them.  When you find an ad listing you are interested in, click on its title or its picture to get to its full detailed listing page.

How does the Map work?

If no category is selected, the map displays red 'Google Pin' markers showing the locations of all of the Ads in our system. Click on a pin to show a pop-up thumbnail of its ad, and click on the thumbnail to open the full ad.
To keep the map from being too crowded, if two or more ad listings are close together, they get a 'Google Cluster' marker instead, with a number showing how many ads are clustered together under it. Clicking on the cluster icon will automatically zoom in the map so you can see the individual ads. In some busier locations you may have to zoom in more than once. You may also double-click on empty map space to zoom in, or use the +/- buttons near the bottom right of the map.

How do I search the classifieds?

Click on the CLASSIFIEDS dropdown and select "Search Classifieds". You will see a Search module to the right of the page, which by default shows a list of all the ads in the system. Fill in the Keyword field and hit enter (or press the Search button at the bottom of the module), and a page of Search Results will come up.  Optionally, you can filter your results by location, category, tags, or price range. Use the Reset button to clear all your search filters (including keywords).

Can I browse by location?

Click on the CLASSIFIEDS dropdown and select "Browse Classifieds". You will see the Location headings (regions of the world) listed to the right of the map, below the Category headings. Clicking on any Location will immediately display a list of all of the current ads in that region.
The region list may have many pages of ads, and you can use the 'Pagination' controls ( ) at the bottom of the page to browse through them.  When you find an ad listing you are interested in, click on its title or picture to get to its full detailed ad page.

Can I sort the listing pages?

Yes, at the top of each page of ad listings, there are a couple of  listing page 'sorting' dropdowns:

By default, the list of ads is sorted by posting time, with the newest ads first. But you can change the sort order to your liking.
You can also change the overall view of the page from its default "List" view to a 3x2 "Grid view".

How do I contact a seller?

You can look for the seller's contact information in the ad description. But if you are logged in to Rotax-Owner (with either a Free or a Paid subscription) then you can use the big green  "+ Contact Advertiser " button on each Ad details page. Clicking on this will pop up a message box, where you can enter a message that will be sent directly to the poster's registered email address. The message will automatically contain a reference to the ad you are enquiring about.

I saw an "Ads Carousel"  - where did it go?

If you reached our Classifieds page through the most direct link ( http://rotax-owner.com/classifieds ) then you will see the Classifieds Carousel at the top of the page. This plays an endless loop of all the ads in our system, starting with the most recent. To pull this page up at any time, just click directly on the "CLASSIFIEDS" menu heading.

"Add to Compare" - what is that all about?

This is an optional advanced feature that lets you select up to four ad listings, and display them in a comparison grid on a new page. As you browse or search through the ad listings, you can click on the little "Add to Compare" checkbox for any listing. A thumbnail of the listing will then appear in a "Compare" module display that opens up at the top of the listings page (Under the map, on pages that display a map.) The module will stay open  with your selections as you navigate through the classifieds. You can place as many as four items into that module, and then click the "Compare" button to the right of those thumbnails. A new "Compare Adverts" page will open, with your selected listings displayed in a grid for easy comparison. You can clear the compare module by clicking on the "x" at the top right of each compare thumbnail.

What kind of ads may I post here?

The Rotax-Owner Classified Ads section is primarily for advertising items of interest to our members who fly, build, or maintain ROTAX-powered aircraft.

Ad postings are classified into four categories: Aircraft for Sale, Engines for Sale, Aircraft Parts, and Aircraft Services.

Services postings are restricted to iRMT technicians, ROTAX service centers, ROTAX repair centers, flight instruction or general aircraft services not specific to engine servicing. Engines and aircraft parts may be new or used. Aircraft instruments and aircraft tools may be posted in the Aircraft Parts category. Aircraft may be new or used, completed or incomplete. All ads must comply with our Terms of Use and are subject to the absolute discretion of our web site administrator.

How do I post an ad?

Click on the CLASSIFIEDS dropdown and select "Post an Ad".  (NOTE: You must be logged in, and you must have a Paid subscription to Rotax-Owner.)
Here are the steps for filling in an ad posting:

  1. Give your ad a descriptive title. (REQUIRED)
  2. Choose the ad Category. (REQUIRED)
  3. Enter the item's Price. (OPTIONAL, but recommended!)
  4. Choose a Tag. (OPTIONAL, but recommended!) - Tags are 'Sale', 'Trade', 'WTB' (Wanted to Buy), etc... Tags help people to find your ad!
  5. Post your ad's description. (REQUIRED) Use as much detail as you like. It is recommended that you put your email or phone number right at the bottom of the ad description, for the benefit of site browsers who may not be logged in to a Rotax-owner account. (Because the 'Contact Advertiser' button only works for logged in members.)
  6. Add a link to a youtube video.  (OPTIONAL, useful for aircraft and such...)
  7. Upload images. (OPTIONAL, but highly recommended!)  You can add up to 4 images per ad.
  8. Choose your region. (REQUIRED). If you don't pick a city in the next step, then your ad will just be placed centrally in the region. Be sure to choose the correct region - it helps people to find your ad!
  9. Enter your address - "City, State"  or  "City, Country" is generally sufficient. This will auto-locate your ad on our map! (OPTIONAL, but recommended!) You do not have to put your street address if you don't wish to. When you have finished with the address entry, just click on the next empty field and the map will relocate automatically. You can also fine tune the location further by manually dragging the marker in the map below. (You may want to zoom the map for that.)
  10. Enter your postal code (OPTIONAL) If you didn't enter an address, your postal code can also auto-locate your ad on the map... if you fill in both, then whichever field you filled in first, takes precedence.
  11. Enter your phone number. (OPTIONAL, but recommended!)
  12. Enter some meta-keywords. (OPTIONAL, but recommended!) Some related words that people might use to search for what you have listed. These help Google and other search engines to index your ads. Separate each word or phrase with a comma. You can use a total of 255 characters, any more will be truncated.
  13. Enter a meta-description. (OPTIONAL, but recommended!) A brief paragraph summary of your ad. This helps people spot your ad in Google search results. You can use a total of 255 characters, any more will be truncated.
  14. Scroll to the bottom and press the green "Post Ad" button. That's it! Your ad will be live for the next 30 days. Be sure to log in and delete it, if your item sells before the ad expires.

Can I post ads in other currencies?

Our system is standardized for three possible currencies - Euro, GBP, and USD. Users in Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Hong Kong, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and other kinds of "dollar" regions, please post your selling price in equivalent US dollars! (Please feel free to put a disclaimer in your ad like "Listed price is approximate, due to currency fluctations"...)

Hey, the Upload Images button doesn't work for me - what gives?

Unfortunately, there is a bug in the Firefox web browser right now. You can use the "Drag and Drop" option instead. Remember, maximum of 4 images per ad!
We strongly recommend using the Chrome web browser on all platforms and devices.

I have uploaded 4 images, how can I put the images in order?

If you have more than one image uploaded, you can just click on the one you want as your 'main' image, and drag it over to the far left.

Can I edit my ad after posting it?

Yes, just go into your Classifieds Dashboard, and use the "My Ads" button, then open up the ad by clicking on the "edit" icon .
Make your changes, and then save the ad. Note that editing the ad does not affect the expiry date, a free ad will still be unpublished 30 days after you originally created it.

Can I renew my ad before it expires?

Yes, when the ad is within three days of its expiry, go into your Classifieds Dashboard, and use the "My Ads" button to get to the list of your ads.
You will see a "renew" icon next to your soon-to-expire ad. Click on that icon, and 30 days will be added to the original expiry time.
Your ad can be renewed indefinitely. Remember to come back and delete the ad after the item is sold!

I have an unpublished "Draft" in my Classifieds Dashboard - what's that about?

A "Draft" will occur if you were in the middle of making an ad, and lost your web connection. Or if you started to make an ad, and then cancelled.
Drafts should always be deleted, use the Trashcan icon  to remove them. You cannot finish a draft and publish it. They are only there as a courtesy, in case you had typed a large amount of text in the description before you fell offline. (You can open up the draft, select all your text and copy it - then close the draft, delete it, and paste the recovered text into a new ad...)

Oops!! How did my ad show up in the wrong map location?

The map location 'zeros in" as you add location information. When you select the Region, it places you in the center of the region. When you start typing in a city, state, or address, the map automatically zooms to that location.
The location changes according to whatever information you added LAST. So if you entered your city and state, and then went back and clicked on the "region" again - it will pull your location away from the city, and into the center of that region again.
To fix this, just go into your Classifieds Dashboard, and use the "My Ads" button, then open up the ad by clicking on the "edit" icon .
You can click again in the street address, and then click on the postal code and phone number (or any empty field) - and your address will update again. You can also manually drag the marker in the little map, if you wish to obscure the location slightly. Make your changes, and then save the ad.

I have a enquiry email from my ad posting, but it isn't coming from the sender's email?

When a logged in Rotax-owner member contacts you using the green "Contact Advertiser" button, our site sends you an email containing their message, and the email you recieve appears to be from "info@rotaxowner.com".

Just REPLY the email, and your email program should automatically put their email as the destination in your reply (It's contained in the "reply-to" field of the mail that our site sent you). This is by design: the "from" address has to be from our site, because otherwise the mail would probably end up in your spam box:  your email program would assume we are impersonating the sender if we used their email as "from" when the mail is sent from our server. (This is due to something called "SPF rules for email", which are designed to reduce spam...)

I have other questions about using the site...

Which web browser is best for using Rotax-Owner?

We strongly recommend using the Chrome web browser on all platforms and devices.
