I've recently downloaded some log files from a Rotax 912is engine due to a series of persistent issues I've been experiencing. The engine seems to be operating at reduced power and idling with a rich fuel mixture. Additionally, there have been intermittent warnings of high Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs).

While I have access to the BUDS logs, I'm currently limited to viewing them in Excel as I lack the BUDS Log Viewer software. Understanding and interpreting these log files has proven to be quite challenging for me.

I'm reaching out in the hope that someone with expertise in this area could assist me in deciphering the log files to identify potential issues causing the observed behavior.

Please feel free to request any additional information you may need for the analysis. I truly appreciate your time and any help you could provide.

Best Regards,

Harry

    If you have downloaded the Log files and have a Dongle, You can view them.

    Connect the Dongle to the computer. The dongle MUST be connected. (No Aircraft or ECU needed)
    Open the BUDS program.
    Select the LOGS Tab.
    The Downloaded Files will appear on the Left.
    Select a LOG File.
    Wait for it to appear in the Right Panels. It sometimes takes a while.
    The Upper Panel is a fault summary.
    The Lower Panel has the fault details.

    DESELECT ALL  Then individually select faults of interest.
    The selected Faults will be detailed in the Lower panel.
    Click on a Column name to change the sort order.
    The Time stamps are ECU hours (HHH:MM:SS).  Not Hobbs hours.

    This should get you started.

    - - -

    The File names are long.
    The left panel can be widened to allow seeing the whole name.
    There is a slider under the Left File Panel to allow seeing the whole name.
    They look like ...

    132456_Logs_7654321_ 2023-05-12_18-37-56.zip

    Decoded as ...
    132456 = ECU Serial Number
    7654321 = Engine Serial Number
    2023-05-12 = Date  (12 May 2023)
    18-37-56 = Time      (6:37:56 PM)

    The issue is that BUDS doesn't provide the same details for log analysis.  The log viewer has some features and determining faults over time.  I have created some of my own code to help with analysis which I have already provided to Harry offline.
