I've searched the forum and cannot find any discussion on how to reset the Rotax Flydat. Other forums suggest that the only way to reset the flydat and get the service message off at start up is to send to service center.
Can someone confirm this true before I do just that and then find out that there is an easier and much less expensive way to take care of this problem.
Thanks

    Hi Wes,

    Where do you live?
The FlyDat was better supported in other countries verses the US. I was never a fan of the Flydat as there were many better EMS out there.
When you get certain messages as you have seen the only way to get it reset is in fact to send it to a service center. I do not know why they don't allow the end user to do this? (territory protection I guess?) It is nothing more than a computer based program and a data cable involved to work with the unit. I have worked with the system and program and it isn't difficult so I'm not sure of the motivation other than $$$ to keep it out of the end users hands.

I'm sure I won't be popular with this post from some dealers and the Flydat service centers, but like the common phrase, "The truth will set you free". ;)

    Roger,
I''m in Dallas. I am not a fan as well and I think you are correct in what motivates. I was just hoping now that it is no longer sold by Rotax or supported by them, that Rotax would have made this available to the owners.
    Thanks for your response.

    Hi Wes
If you have the hole on the side of your unit such as would take a head phone jack then you can obtain the device from rotax that will enable you to reset your unit yourself
this device will allow you to reset the unit 19 times in a row after that it must go to a service centre to be done with their cables
I have had this problem out here in Australia and Bert flood has been kind enough to lone this device to me so that I can reset the unit myself
Hope this helps Good luck Mark

Wes, I've always had luck clearing the "Service!" message, by pressing and holding the button on the front panel, while turning the unit on. Keep holding, until you see "Service cleared" (or something like that) .Is this what you are talking about?

Yes, you can reset erase the service message by holding the button down and turning the power to the unit on 20 times. Then you must send it to a service center for them to reset and give you 20 more resets. When you have an oil sending unit that is going on the blink, it is not hard to get to 20 resets.
Crazy..... especially since they no longer supper the units.
