Guys,

I've just finished completely rebuilding my trike (full nut/ bolt, all wiring etc). The 80hp 912 has only 350hrs on it, the only engine work that was done was just cleaning up the exterior and powder coating the valve covers.
On it's first run up today since I've owned the aircraft, the RPM gauge is dead. I've checked continuity right back from the gauge to the engine pickup and the wiring buzzes out ok. The gauge is getting it's 12v and I tried swapping around the blue/ yellow & white yellow cables on the rear of the gauge but no luck.

Has anyone any suggestions of what to check next??

Many thanks
Steve

    Steve,

You might try checking the trigger coil. It should read 220 to 250 ohms across the trigger (new type), 115 to 123 ohms (old type).

Not many places it could be. If you have checked the wiring all the way from gauge to trigger coil, That only leaves the trigger coil or the gauge. How about the trigger coil plug?

Bill do you know anything about my 582 temp gauge prob I posted yesterday?

    Thanks Bill,
I'll check that later when I get home.
Is there any way to check the gauge?
Trigger coil plug?? Do you mean on the wiring from the trigger itself (Blue/yellow & White/yellow wires)? If so, I've installed new molex connectors on these wires as the old wiring was a complete mess and a previous owner had used horrible bullet connectors, but as I've checked continuity from the gauge right back to the trigger itself then the new wiring/ connector looks good.
The aircraft was sitting in storage prior to me buying it and hadn't been started in approx 1yr, so I'm not sure if the gauge was working before I stripped her down.

    Cheers
    Steve.

    Steve,

Disconnect the blue/yellow and white/yellow at the gauge and read the ohms across those two wires. If you get the proper ohm reading at that point, then you'll know that all is well with the trigger and the wiring. Don't know how to check the gauge itself short of trying another gauge.

    Bill.
