So I have this 912ULS. It is a early 2006 with 780 hours TTSN. For several months now I have oil seeping from between the case halves, top and bottom. Not much, but sometimes there is a small puddle under the engine.

I have a a 3 blade Whirlwind prop that has long been set per Roger's recommendation. Before that it was slightly less pitch for stol.

Will there be any long term problems from this condition, other than the mess, or do I need to do an overhaul, with new cases, halfway through TBO?

    Hi Alan,
    Need a tad more info.
So you have oil on the floor all the time? (or coolant)
Are you absolutely sure it's from the case halves? This would be fairly rare. Could it be from the cylinder side of things?
If it's oil and confirmed from the case have you tried to torque the case bolts?
Is it the case half seams or possible cracks? Cracks can come from over pitching the prop and running way to low in WOT rpms and was more prevalent in the 1500 hr. engines.

    Hi Roger.

I'm going out to the airport this afternoon and I'll take a picture. I've been flying this engine for more than eleven years and I'm almost positive I've never flown it with too positive pitch. I'm going to check everywhere again but I know for sure oil is seeping from the top case halves.

Ok. Here are a couple of pics. I looked all under the engine, at least as well as I could with all the pipes and hoses. There might be another leak from the starboard bottom of the accessory case or just from that top case leak working it's way down.

That almost looks like it's coming up from the cyl. and drooling down.

So you're saying that the cylinder.base gasket is leaking and the air is pushing that oil up and over. I never thought of that. Thank you, Roger.
