HIC wiring

Hello,

When wiring your HIC connectors, did you use shielded and/or twisted pair wires or will unshielded work? Also, the 912iS installation manual calls for the use of a specific Molex crimping tool. Is this a proprietary crimping tool with unique dies, or will a standard ratcheting crimp tool work? Thank you.

    Use 20G twisted pair for the maintenance ports. all the others are non-shielded.
    Also it is recommended by Michael Stock (CAN-Aerospace) to put a 120 ohm termination resistor at the maint ports.
    see attached for a different look at the wiring.
    The crimper is Molex 63811-4400. It works well but a good open barrel crimper may also work.

    the crimper is available at allied electronics (houston office) with cost in the 60-70 dollar range.

    Thank you. I've ordered the Molex crimper. I also notice that the AMP connector calls for Tyco crimping pliers 69710-1 with dies 90145-1. The crimping tool runs about $200 used and the dies are listed for $1440 at Allied! (http://www.alliedelec.com/te-connectivity-90145-1/70089785/)

    Am I missing something? Are there generic alternatives? I'm not familiar with AMP connectors and the associated tooling.

    For the amp connector crimper go to a local avionics shop with the wire and pins and for a nominal fee they will crimp the pins. The crimper
    is expensive but is a common aviation crimper.

    I'm having to deal with getting those 3 terminals crimped on now. Both shops at my airport say that the gauge is too large for their crimpers. They say they don't handle wires that require crimps that large.
    I plan to check at other airports. After that my next step will be to see if the Service Centers are equipped to provide that service.
