    Hi Sakari,

The Tempest oil filter does not have the proper internal parts for a Rotax 912 oil filter. Please wait and I think you may see a blog here soon that will address your concerns and the why's. For now buy the new Rotax oil filter. It is very different inside even from the old Rotax filter. The old filter comes in a blue/white box and the new Rotax oil filter is in an all white box. It has a one way valve now, new higher by pass pressure, new anti drain back valve, new by pass pressure spring and it's made by Mahle.
There was a reason the Rotax did a complete overhaul so don't take two steps back. The tempest oil filter cost $22 so it isn't really any bargain. The tempest was made after the same design as they have for the Continental and Lycoming engines so it isn't suitable for the Rotax.

The only problem with the new Rotax Filter, part number 825012, is that it is about 5mm longer, and it is now necessary to loosen the exhaust pipe in order to remove or install the filter. You need to have two new exhaust nuts on hand for the oil change.

    Hi Dudley,

I am a little surprised because I know Rotax wouldn't design something like that on purpose.
I haven't had any problems with the new filters and the exhaust on other aircraft. You might be able to loosen your exhaust a tad and pull it to a slightly different angle so it won't interfere. I just installed a new filter on my own plane the other day and it went on just like the old one and I have stock Rotax exhaust.
