Thank you for the offer.  Im not sure that a timing light is used to check the points and there seems to be a bit of disassembly of the engine including removing the flywheel and possibly a special puller for the flywheel.  Here is a link to the instructions for doing this if I did it right.  the engine is an early model 503.
