I'm looking for real life fuel consumption for a new 582 that uses pre-mix gas and oil. I will be flying a gyro open frame at 5000 rmp. What is your experience with fuel consumption? Please use gallons per hour.

    James,

It depends a lot on your cruise RPM but 582s are gas hogs (as are most 2 cycles). Mine averages around 4 to 4 1/2 gph.

Bill, thanks for the reply, I just in the testing period and I plan to fly the pattern until I have a good idea about my consumption. I'm flying an open frame gyro and there is plenty of drag. It will be a couple of months until a try a cross county flight. I'm in no hurry with temperatures in the teens.

James - Cruising at 80% power setting (5450 rpm) I calculate my fuel burn at 15 liters/hr - 3.5 imperial gallons/hr and usually come in just under that. Pushing up the power setting does increase the fuel burn but I have never measured the exact flow.

    Intake silencer installed?
What's your jetting on the carbs?
    Prop type and pitch setting?

Bottom line - stick with your plan of staying close to a landing strip while you get a good feel for your aircraft...change something and your fuel flow may change too.

Frank,I'm using an IVOprop and not sure about the pitch angle. It is a 68" triple prop. It is pitched with a adjustment bolt to limit the engine to 6800-6500RPM. I'm also flying a push type gyrocopter with plenty of drag. From all the have chimed in, it looks like about an hour of flight time with about 20 minutes in reserve. I have a sight tube on my seat tank for my gas level.
    Thanks for the reply
