Hi Nick if you don't want to disturb the probes just swap the wires on the gauges.

Hi guys...great minds think alike....I did intend to swap the wires on the back of the gauge as I was thinking its prob a wiring or gauge prob...but I found the prob before I did that,

Only sorted it yesterday....my plan was to test the gauge with the ohm range on my multi tester...when I did both sides of the gauge they read the same....I as I was about to re fit the 4 wires back on the gauge one of the terminals fell off the end of the wire...when I first looked at the wiring they all looked ok....but this one had a heat shrink sleeve on it and I think the wire had broken or corroded under it and the heat shrink held it in place making it look as if nothing was wrong,

The wire was prob only just touching the metal connector that pushes onto the pin on the back of the gauge,

I gave it a good ground run yesterday and all is now fine...I have noticed when one wire is removed on a duel gauge it seems to effect its opposite side needle...hence why both where reading lower but one much lower,

    Thanks for you advice guys.

    Nick.

    Hi Nick,

Glad you found the elusive electrical ghost that has from time to time given us all a tad of trouble with electrical issues.

I usually tell most people when trouble shooting any electrical problems to always grab a wire and give it a gentle tug. Many times I have found wires that looked attached, but when you tug on them they pull right out or were held in by 1-2 strands and had a poor connection.
