582 random miss-fire through the prop side carb

Hi, i recently totally rebuilt my 582 silver top(new crank seals). It has always been a bugger to start and i hoped things might improve.....
Nope...
Once I do get it running it sounds great, randomly after anything between two minutes and 10 it will fart through the prop side Carburettor loose power and stop. A few pulls on the starting cord will cause it to pop a few more times out of the same carb and nothing and then suddenly it decides to start up and pure like a kitten until the next time!!!

Any suggestions? The rotary valve timing is correct as far as I can understand, the carbs I have cleaned out... What else could cause this?

Does it run fine on both mags when its running...do you get any odd EGT readings just before it farts.

Hi Nick,

No noticeable EGT issues. I tried the mags and it does as expected.... I have been suggested to swap the carbs over and see if it changes anything.... Else I was told that if the piston is in poor shape it is igniting the pre mix in the crank... Sounds a fair comment but it did not do this apparently before I took it apart.

Why why.... any other ideas?

Swapping the carbs is a good idea,

So it was not like this before you re-built it...

When it stops have you taken the carb bowls off to see if the fuel is the same in each.

I think it was as simple as too low Idle... It was under 1000rpm.. the manual states that it should be 2k idle... If thats the case no wonder it was not happy going from tick over to higher revs. Its just waiting for its test flight but the last two run up times its not missfired

still have problems...
Swapped the carbs over and still the engine is still only managing 4800rpm and if I back of the throttle, it will occasionally back fire, start to loose power back fire again and then die. After this happens its a pig to start with the odd pop though the exhaust and eventually it will fire back up and run smooth but only hitting the 4800 rpm.. then in a circle it goes. If I leave it on full throttle it keeps running but if I back off and on a few times it will eventually start the back fire sequence until it stops.. any ideas for a desperate man!
