503 cooling question

Curious on year of manufacture and any information available on a 503 I'm interested in purchasing and installing on my spitfire ultralight. Mot. Nr. M5766914. Also, it is fan cooled, but would be mounted in tractor configuration on my ultralight. Would it be wise or necessary to remove cylinder shielding and fan to allow "propwash" windstream to provide cylinder cooling? Thank you and I appreciate any advice you're willing to share.
