Carburetor Piston Wear
Hi there, I am evaluating some wear on my carburetor piston and the housing where the piston appears to be rubbing. Should I be concerned about this? Is this normal?
I don't see any uneven wear on the needle or needle jet.

Hi Kelsie,
How many hours?
What engine?

Hi Sean, it is a 912 ULS with 602.2 hours. These are the original carburetors.

This can be caused by vibration from out of sync carbs. It can be caused by carbs because they need to be overhauled if they are getting up in years. It can be caused by other vibrations you can't feel. Things like put of balance props and gearboxes that may need an overhaul.

Obviously I will want to investigate and resolve underlying issues, but once that is done, is this wear anything to worry about beyond being an indicator of a problem? Should I be thinking about replacing the piston and/or entire carb (due to the housing wear)?

Vacuum operated piston may be sticking and not working properly. Test it when assembled.
