I have a new Rotax 912ULS (s/n 9144585).   I am aware that rubber hoses should be replaced after 5 years, but PTFE hoses have an "indefinite" (being careful with that word) life.  Does Rotax supply rubber hoses when you buy the engine from a Rotax dealer?  Is there a way to tell what type of hose is inside a fire sleeve?

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi Michael

The correct word is not "indefinite", in aviation it is "on condition".  The hose must pass inspection to appear as new to be used again after the initial 5 year life.  In actual practice the hoses that Rotax supplies, for the fuel system, are part of the certified fuel system as supplied for the engines that meet the type certificate.  One needs to be careful here as Rotax does offer the engine without fuel lines and many OEM, particularly from Europe, supply the fuel lines to the fuel pump and return line that are approved by them and not Rotax.   In those cases the correct person to get  replacement from would be that OEM and not Rotax.  The certified system has 37 degree compression UNF fittings (UNF/JIC commonly called AN, however AN is different on thread construction and more expensive)

The current engines supplied with the certified UNF fittings and an integral fire coating on the hoses.  Rotax does not supply rubber fuel lines.

    Cheers
