I need to try staking a valve.  Will I be able to remove the rocker arms without the special spring alingment tool they use in the manual? I hope the shaft just slip out at TDC or I can collapse the lifters to release the pushrod pressure?  Thanks, Dave

    Hi David

To stake a valve you do not remove the rocker arm.  You would remove the valve cover and rotate the engine to the compression stroke, both intake ad exhaust closed.  Then you use a mallet and strike the rocker arm just over the valve to rocker contact point.  This will snap the valve off the seat and the spring pops it back.  A few taps and you are done.

The rocker arm shaft will not come out as these are hydraulic lifters with pressure all the time.  There is no reason to remove them if you are just trying to clear some carbon off the valve seat.

    Cheers
