I have a 912ULS engine on my RV12 with 390 hrs on Hobbs

I had an issue with hard starting and sometimes not starting at all. It had never had the carbs overhauled so I sent the carbs to Lockwood for an overhaul. When I replaced the carbs still having the same issue. So I replaced both ignition modules. Now it starts right up but when I do the lane checks it dies when I turn off Lane 2.

Any thoughts on what to check next?

    Hi David

On the 912 ULS the modules are labeled with A and B.  The A is on top, B on the bottom,.  Remove them and switch A for B, they are the same part number.  Be sure to connect the wires right.  If the problem, moves with your module change then something is wrong with that module or the charge from the stator to the module.  In the maintenance manual heavy, MML, for the 912 ULS you will find the electrical test section with all the components ohms readings to confirm they are OK.  The only part we cant check is the module itself, only swap them to check.

    Cheers

    Hi David,

The effect you have described, tells me that you, most probably, have a problem with the "Lane 1". It means something related to anything connected to the module related to the Lane 1 switch. That includes anything from spark plugs to trigger coils and the stator.

Beside reading the manual proposed by Rotax Wizard, I would suggest to watch the following video, too:
