Hi there All

For a while I see a strange oil pressure indication on my EMS (MGL Xtreme2) : everything looks ok until half to one hour of flight. Then the indication goes from 4,5 bars (normal) to 9 or 10 (or even I saw 12) and erratic. It goes back to normal at landing (low RPM).

I changed the sender and got same.

On an another hand I measured compressions and all seems ok but the fact that I ear little oil burps when I apply 6 bars.

What do you think ? Low pistons ring leaking and pressure goes in oil circuit (under side of the pane is quite brown and oily)…

    Speculation:

If you have ruled out a sensor problem, perhaps you have some sort of intermittent blockage in your crankcase/ tank return line or in your breather line.

    Are the above oil lines:

     # In good condition?

     # Have you replaced them, with hose meeting/exceeding Rotax specifications?

     # At the Rotax recommended 5 year in service intervals?

     # Are the hoses routed so as to minimise bends? - are any bends wide arc?

Long shot - Have you replaced your oil filter with an OM Rotax ?

    Hi Sean,

thanks for your reply. I’m just out of a 5-year maintenance and did it by the Rotax book and no change with previous passage of pipes…

I've seen bad oil pressure numbers because of poor grounding or a wire rubbing through somewhere. Since you replaced the sender already this is where I'd look.

    p.s.

You may have a ground, but a poor one.

Thanks Roger, but I have other datas on my EMS (water and oil temp and external and admission temp and fuel pressure) and the are all ok. The only one question is with the oil pressure.

    Ho Cointe,

It still could be the oil pressure sending grounding. I don't know what type you have.  It could also still be a rubbed wire. I would at least rule those out of the equation.
