I own 2 912 UL engines, and do routine maintenance on three 912ULS in addition, for friends. A 300hr 912ULS suddenly developed a fault in the float valve leading to a major spillage, which could easily have caused a fire. I replaced it, as a temporary measure, with a 1000hr needle from one of my engines, with no problem.
A brand new 912ULS 20 hours, same owner, developed the same fault! Both needles show a barely perceptible flat on the tip.
I have never had these problems with older engines, is there a fundamental problem with these new needles or is it to do with the fuel? I run my 912ul engines on 91 octane, the 912uls's run on 95, but the fuel we get in Thailand is aggresive stuff that eats paint, resin, plastic etc. - but has no alcohol.
