    Hi All,

    The idea with the test screw is ok, but you have to be extremely careful that this is not too long and contact the counter balance surface inside. Remember this is where the crankshaft locking pin screws into. If you bend that bolt because of a contact the only way to remove it is to pull the engine and split the case. It's a very risky area if you aren't careful and could be very expensive. The threaded end of your test screw should only be as long as the screw that came out of that hole to ensure you don't make contact with the inner rotating surface.

    I should have mentioned that. The bolt I used has a long thread and with the nut attached does not protrude into the crankcase.
    The max thread length is 27mm (see page 2 of the revised attachment).
    You also do not want the fitting threads to be too short as the lock pin bolt hole is relieved at the top end. You sure don’t want to strip these threads (but a helicoil is allowed if you do).
