    Thank you Roger,

I wasn't very good at explaining was I & keeping it short gave you misleading gen.

The WOT I speak of is in the climb out after take-off in the Rans S6-116 that's about 75 mph & which holds the revs down to 5,200; this is in accordance with Rotax guidance that the prop should not be coarser than and rev's less than 5,200 for that duty. It is O.K. also at Straight & Level WOT which still showing its slightly coarse, yielding 5550 rpm. That's the closest I can conveniently adjust to as a working compromise and means for my flying it's safer; like this, unless I dive I won't readily exceed the 5,800 top allowed rpm.
I understand it prevents me accessing the full 80 h.p. but as you point out it is only a fixed pitch prop.
When spring wx does arrive in the U.K. & if she's much the same on fuel use I'll probably do as you say and watch the heat change as it builds up in the CHT and not move more than one slot to No. 2 notch from the top. I've no desire to add the complication (or small extra risk of malfunctions) of thermostats in either oil or water circuits. An EGT is really correct I do agree, but as I haven't got any of that kit, the book does seem to allow consumption as a (rough guide).

Regards & I'm grateful for your continued gudance.

    Hello Mike
If I understand your temps correctly, I would think 112F is far too low for oil temperature. It is my understanding that we require at least 180/200F just to prevent condensation buildup in the oil.Just my two cents worth.
    Cheers
    Don

    Sorry Don,

Mea Culpe, should have checked my figure before posting, should read 212 F (100 C)

With the stiff plastic sheet slid under two tie wraps in front of the front mounted oil cooler it satisfies me for moisture boil off. Actually though a crude fix, one can slide the sheet off to one side to allow some more air as the wx warms up & finally chuck it in the cupboard when summer arrives !
A new one is cut from the side of any platic oil 'can' and the tie wraps stay on all the time. The water radiator on the S6-116 lies flat on top at the back of the cowling, so easy to drop a stiff cardboard sheet onto it to cut the air flow, when the top cowling is off for checking the oil level, it just sits there and can't get away. However it does need a lot of blanking even in summer. The needle drop by one groove is a mild sounding alteration if as Roger says I watch the temperature very carefully.

    Mike,

I've never tried one but I've heard good things about the Thermobob system for the radiator. I installed a set of adjustable shutters that I bought at Lowes. they are designed for the crawlspace vents around the house. I hooked them up to a push-pull knob in the cockpit and they work great. Total cost about thirty bucks. For the oil temp I installed a Thermostasis thermostat. Practically foolproof; it can only fail in an open position. Oil temps are now a non-issue, water temps are easily controlled from the cockpit, and warmup time is considerably shorter.

    Bill.
