Can anyone comment about the pros and cons of a manual waste gate modification in a 914. It seems to be a common feature in amateur built applications.

I'm not sure what the advantages would be except to allow you to increase boost at lower rpms and operate with a greater pitch on the prop that should (in theory) give you better fuel consumption. This is what Lindberg did with the P38 Lightnings in the Pacific during WW2 and this gave a much greater range. At the time the engine specialists said it would destroy the engines but they (the engines) were tougher than everyone thought and this dramatically increased the effectiveness of the P38.
There may be some interest if you have a VP prop or if you didn't have the money to replace a dead TCU.

I'm sure Rotax would be dead against the idea.
I'd also be interested to hear other comments about this.
