I have a small issue with fuel spitting out the vent tube on one carb on my 912. Thinking it may be some contamination in the float needle valve, I removed it and are having a "bear" of a time to get it back in place. Are there any "easy fixes" to keep the needle valve, tiny spring clip and the float bracket together in order to slide it up into the valve seat. It would be easy to do with the carb removed but is there a way without? I wonder if a dab of grease would hold it long enough. Not an easy fit for big fingers!Short cut Lee?

    don,

It can be replaced with the carb in place but is difficult. Easiest way is to remove the small nut from the enrichener lever on the side of the carb and remove the lever. Do not remove the cable from the lever. Pull the top off the carb and lift the slide out. Unhook the fuel line, loosen the carb boot, and then remove the carb. It's not as hard as it sounds and you won't lose your throttle and choke cable settings. With the carb out, you can do a real cleaning job on it and the float needle will fall right in. Be sure to line up the rubber tab on the edge of the slide diaphragm with the indent in the carb body when reinstalling.

If you want to try it with the carb in place, buy a couple of curved hemostats. They are great for putting small parts in tight places.

    Hi Don,

It is a PITA with the carb still upright and mounted. Like Bill said you may get it done, but it is a whole lot easier, less frustrating and less time consuming just to pop the carb off. While it's off you should check the float height. Doing it with the carb still on be careful not to bend anything.

    Hi Lee and Bill.
    Thanks for your comments.
I was trying to avoid taking the carb off because I have the carb heat hot water manifolds that are permanently press fitted. Guess I was hoping for a short cut. Anyway today I took the carb off, it is SPOTLESS after 300 hours of 87 unleaded! Now I am waiting for Rotax to send me a new float hinge pin (dropped it and cannot find anywhere)
Is there an easy way to check float height? I cannot see how any of this could have changed. The engine has ran fine up till now. Carbs balanced every 40 hours or so, floats do not sink, carbs clean,no fuel pump changes, etc.
These are all the original parts from 1996. Every thing LOOKS prefect though, no leaks (except this one side started spitting fuel)
    Comments, please
    Cheers
    Don

    Hi Don,

If that carb is from 1996 with original parts then there was an SB out to change the float needle valve from the old red tip to the newer black tip. Make sure both of these are changed. It could be the problem if they were never changed. The float arm should be 10.5mm or .412" from the carb bowl edge to the top of the metal float arm. Check both side to make sure they are equal.
