Hi,
I have a Europa Aircraft, monowheel classic with the original engine frame and not the Europa XS engine frame,  with Rotax 912S Engine and the old starter p/n 293152. I am thinking of upgrading the starter to the new more powerful starter p/n 889750. I believe there maybe problems with the engine frame on my classic Europa regarding sufficient room for the new starter. Can anyone please give me the dimensions of both starters to see if they differ and by how much?
Much appreciated.
Regards,

Tim

    Hi Tim,

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think you will have any problems installing the new starter. If the old style starter fit the new one should work. If someone here knows different with this aircraft maybe they will chime in.

    Tim,

I just measured my new style starter and it is 16 centimeters long from the base of the engine to the outermost point of the two tabs on the starter. I use one of the tabs for a starter ground but you could pick up the ground somewhere else and saw the tabs off. I wouldn't do it unless necessary but it would make the overall length almost the same as the old starter.

    Bill,
Many thanks for that. Can you give me the diameter of the new starter?
I believe it is about the same as the old.
If so then it is the lugs at the rear that may have to be cut off to get it in.

    Cheers,

    Tim,

Difficult for me to get an accurate diameter with the starter in place but as nearly as I can measure, it looks like about seven centimeters at most.

If you cut off the lugs you will only shorten the starter about three centimeters. The lugs do make an excellent mounting point for the negative battery cable.

    Hi Bill,
If you removed the lugs on the new HD starter, what would be the length then. I have just measured the room I have between the old starter and the engine frame post and that is 15mm. So I have 15 mm to spare over the old starter length to play with. Can the new starter fit?
    Cheers,

    Tim
