I have tried to run the TLR program on XP Pro and Window 7 in dos mode but to no avail. Where can I get a more modern program or how do I convert the one I have to run with Window 7. It is inconceivable that Rotax should not have upgraded this antique program long ago. The distributor in Australia claim that it is the only one available but no PC can run it.

Please help me someone.

This is from memory, and from postings of others who have had this problem. Agreed Rotax shold have come up with an official process but maybe that's why this forum exists. The older TCU calls for TLR 4.6 which is corrected via a serial cable. That's your firt issue. I recently ordered a converter cable (USB to Serial) then configured it to Com1 through the computer's control panel. Normally the adapter it will default to Com9 which TLR does not recongnize.

That done, TLR 4.6 is loaded to the computer desktop in folder you create "TLR". Once done, run the computer in a DOS mode (cmd) and power up the TCU and run TLR4.6. It will allow you to set up a configuration file **.cfg. Anser two quesitons what your monitor is V=VGA and what com port do you want to use.(earlier you set the adapter to com1). Enter the port you set the adapter to Com1 then power up the TCU. Those two responses should set up the configuration file so the computer can link to the TCU.

Before you go to cmd mode (DOS) do a right click on the TLR 4.6 file on your desktop and set th file's properties. Select comp;atibility and click on "run this program in compatablity mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). When you then run TLR 4.6 it should run as if it's running on an XP computer.

If you have to go back and set the program again delect the **.cfg file and start the configuration process again..

This process allowed me to have my newer laptop communicate with the TCU. Hopefully this answers your question. Good luck

    Ole,

The software was designed to run in an MS DOS environment, which causes some difficulties running on newer operating systems and serial port converters etc.

However, it is certainly possible to run the software on any machine, including a Mac.

Have a look at the attached instructions on configuring the software and MS Windows serial port configuration for a USB to Serial port converter.

Keep in mind to run the correct software version for your TCU type. There have been 3 different versions of TCU's and consequently 3 versions of software to communicate.
Attached is a checklist to find the correct software version to run for each TCU version, defined by TCU part #.
Software versions 4.3 and 4.5 will require a "dongle" connection cable to communicate with the TCU. Software version 4.6 does not need this cable, only a straight through 9 pin serial cable (M/F).

With Bernard's instructions and this info, you should be able to get it up and running.

    Hope this helps.
