    Hi Geoff,

A Rotax distributor will need that engine serial number to give you the year of MFG. Maybe Rotec will jump in here and give you a date.

Here's the thing about engines. They like to be run and stay lubricated. With an engine that is that old with those few hours it had lots of time to sit and get dry on the internal parts each time it was started. It was probably poorly lubricated and you had a lot more wear than an engine run more often. So many more parts were scraped, scratched and rubbed on your drier starts.

Thank you Roger do the engines have a time of expiry l hear a lot of people say the there engine has time out they are replacing them are they referring to the case as you can replace all the moving parts with a rebuild.
    cheers Geoff.

    Hi Geoff,

The people you are talking about may be referring to the Rotax engine time limits. The 2 strokes and 4 strokes have hours of operation and years in operation time limits before they are supposed to be rebuilt. You can look in the appropriate manual for each engine and find those time limits.

Hi Rob thank you for the information that's 22 years old and done 351hrs it has a broken oil ring and the broken piece is no where to be found where could it have gone there is no way it can get past the bore
The spring has been rubbing no the barrel and worn a grove shaped like the spring in the piston ring grove.
    cheers Geoff.
