Hi All
I'm new to this forum
My 912 ULS has heavy rust deposits on Magneto ring and coils, its only 2 years old, 120 hours and always hangared.
Has anyone experienced this ? The Rotax heavy maintenance manual only mentions that a "light film" on the magneto ring is OK , but these are heavy deposits and concern me.
Can it interfere with the ignition system, trigger coils etc ?? causing failure ??

    Hi Kevin,

You must live in a humid climate or some coolant was spilled or leaked down in that area. Doesn't really matter at this point. You can take a piece of 400 grit emery if you want and clean the spots you can get to. I have recommended that people that leave their planes out or live in really humid climates use a little Boeing T-9 spray on metal parts that rust or corrode. That will keep that from happening. Boeing T-9 was made for the Boeing aircraft company to prevent corrosion. It is a clear spray that is paraffin based. I used to recommend it when I Mfg'ed dive compressors that were around salt air and in the salt water. It works very well. It won't affect your electrical connections. Just a light spray and it will seal out any further moisture laden air or water intrusion. It works well on the bare metal prop flange or other rust or corrosion prone parts.
