Over the past 10 hours on my 912UL, my oil pressure has been creeping up to a point where it's above 73 PSI at normal operating temps. I replaced the oil pressure regulator with the new style plug, spring, and cone. No change. I have both mechanical oil pressure gauge and electronic gauge and both read the same pressures. Engine has 400 hrs on it... using 100LL and changing oil every 25 hours.
At 5200 rpm, oil pressure now is between 80 and 90 PSI.

Any Ideas...

Thanks

    Hi Russell,

Type of oil? When you changed the oil pressure regulator cone did you replace all three parts, the plug screw, spring and mushroom?

The oil is AeroShell sport 4 plus. I replaced all three parts...the plug, spring and mushroom. I am mid time oil...15 hours. The increase in oil pressure has been slow but steady over the last ten hours. I have not changed anything else. That's why it's perplexing.

    Thanks

    Hi Russell

Do you have an electronic and mechanical gauge permanently attached.

Yes, the electronic and mechanical gauges are permanent. Oil pressure is too important. The electronic gauges are prone to error. A simple mechanical gauge is cheap insurance when there is a question. Both of these gauges are reporting the same oil pressure. I have replaced the oil filter and as I said earlier, installed the new oil pressure regulator..screw cap, spring and cone. There was no change to the high oil pressure readings.

    Thanks for the help.

Just an update. I found the problem. The oil pump housing was cracked and was allowing oil to get behind the regulator cone, making it unable to open as the oil pressure rose. This is a big buck fix. I was unable to find a used housing, sooooooo I purchased a new housing. The crack or cracks were difficult to see. I finally found them where the regulator seats when closed.

Anyway, at least the credit card worked very well! :S
