Oil Purge required?

I've got the spring, plug screw and valve piston to replace on the oil pump because I've noticed a gradual decrease in oil pressure on my 912ULS over the past 5 years. Will this induce air into the system requiring a purge?

Also, since I replaced my magnetic plug it has leaked a small amount of oil. I've checked torque with a calibrated torque wrench and it is correct. Though a gasket is not called for by Rotax would it be acceptable to try a thin copper gasket? Any other suggestions?

Some people use the oil drain plug washer with success on the mag plug.

I use soft copper washers available at most auto stores.

Off the subject, but I found out an interesting little fact today. The 2x47mm buna n manifold carb boot O ring that Rotax charges six bucks for can be bought at most any online O ring distributor for thirty five cents.

Hi Micheal,

No it won't introduce too much air. I would have the new plug ready and wouldn't just sit there and let it all run out. This may help, but it could just as easily be the sender slowly going out. Happens all the time.

Rather than spending $220 + for the Rotax part what are your thoughts about using the Lockwood Aero GAV360-004 sender?

Mike,

Most any sender will work if it is compatable with your gauge. If you are going to change senders, you might also consider mounting the sender remotely rather than directly to the engine. Although it is rare, engine vibration can be a problem with the internal workings of some senders.
