Dear Rotax Owners

I had small leakage from the oil pump for some time. just a few drops now and then but enough to do something about it. I did check the torques before removing the pump. All according to the spec.

After disassembly I found the O-rings a bit hard so I bought new set of O-rings.
Otherwise the pump looks very good.

According to the maintenance manual, section 79-00-00 3.1.4, I should apply Loctite 515
(5188 is the new version according to Loctite) in the area of the crack between the two crankcase halves. I will do that.

My question is: Is it wise to add a thin layer of Loctite 5188 along all contact areas between pump and crankcase ?
And even a very thin layer between pump cover and pump as well?

I always follow what the manual dictates but in this case it feels correct to add Loctite 5188 between these parts.
I am probably wrong.

Thanks in advanced

Its OK to add some sealant between the pump and case. Remember you will almost always have residual oil trapped in this area (unless the galleries are completely empty of oil you will get a trickle of oil coming out)
It normal for this residual oil to come out over the course of the next few hours of operation. Dont keep tightening the bolts to stop it! that will distort the pump housing.

    Thanks Rob,

I will follow your advice. Have torque the bults to 10 NM.
After a closer look on the O-rings, especially the two small ones, was quite hard and deformed.
I am glad that I replaced all O-rings.

    Hi Rob,
I have used Loctite 598 ( a.k.a European Loctite 5910) on the oil pump sealing areas and it has worked very well. If it worked well for the gearbox it should work well for the oil pump.
