Hi. I have 912ULS (100hp) and I have frequent problems with engine flooding during first startup. What can be a reason?
Engine runs smooth without any problems. RPM drop (during check) about 80-100rpm, everything look's fine. I have second plane with 912UL and I haven't any problems with first run.
I suspect that engine is flooded because during start prop stops suddenly and hard. I used "flooded engine procedure" by crank on closed fuel and full throttle and it's start well.

There is a good chance it is just in the throttle and carb setup or use. If the idle rpm is too high and you then choke it it can flood. If you use too much throttle on a start it can flood. Many times you may not even need the choke and it may start just fine in warm weather without it.

I don't know your exact cause not being there, but try a few different starting techniques. Try setting the idle around 1750 just for starters. Leave the throttle closed at start and choke it. If that doesn't work try cracking the throttle about 1/4" or just a tad. (just a tad is a scientific term :silly:)
A poor carb sync can make a difference. Old worn out carb needle valves or other internal parts can cause hard starting.

HI, I'm starting with choke on and throttle idle (~1600rpm). Engine work's smooth even 1600rpm.
    I'll try without choke.

1600 rpm for a start and no throttle may be a little low depending on things like plug gaps, plug age, carb sync and especially battery life.

Try using the choke and just cracking the throttle a tad. If this doesn't work try using a different battery or a jump with another source. The battery could be a bit marginal. This has been the cause of many a hard starting issue for some because you may just be on the brink of producing enough energy to start, but not a really good hard turn for the engine. The human eyes and ears can't tell if you are in the marginal zone. Even though you think you may have a great battery give it a shot.

Maybe it's battery related problem. I try to replace it..
