Yesterday while performing my oil change I noticed something in the bottom of my oil tank tiny black fragments the size of a lead pencil non metallic along with a few larger pieces that had a concave shape on one side I questioned a few techs and the told me it was probably the cage on the main prop shaft bearing so I took the gear box out and the bearing is not damaged . I've been looking at parts book and I'm starting to think it might be a valve seal has anyone out there ever encountered one of them breaking . I will remove valve covers today hoping to find were this is coming from Thanks for any response you might have for me.Picture of fragments below

Are they hard plastic or softer like rubber? How old is the engine?
    My first thoughts.
Places for a quicks look: the gearbox bearing (you already looked), plastic spacer just under the first gear when you start to disassemble the gearbox or under the valve cover where the tappet pin Bushing is, it's a plastic, or possibly the piston wrist pin bushing.
Depending on what the material is it could be hose flaking too. How old are your engine hoses.
Some of these have changed over the years so engine age can be a factor.

This can happen with old plastic washers or a loose gearbox shimming. Gearboxes that sit for years can need re-shimming to even if they don't have a lot of hours on them.
