G'day

I'm presently fitting a new 912 ULS3 and doing the mag wires.

Is it OK to run the two mag grounding wires between the ignition modules and the switches within a single shield that is earthed? The two images should show the question. One wire does not have the connection and grommet on yet as depending on your comments I can withdraw the wire. And also the earth wire is not connected yet for the same reason. (colour being used is green and blue)

Any information is appreciated.

Regards
Mike

    Mike,

The wires to my ignition switches both pass through the same screened outer. The Rotax manual doesn't even show the use of screened cable. See the diagram below.

    Hi Kevin

Thanks for your information. Did you do installation yourself and how many hours of running have you done with the engine.

    Hi Mike,

I am not the original builder of the plane. The engine has run successfully with this ignition switch set-up for about 800 hours (400 in my ownership) so it seems robust.

that diagram is not from the Installation Manual so it should not be used for this purpose.
The IM does show each wire having its own shield. It also states 18G shielded wire is to be used with both ends of the shielding grounded.
Why are you using such heavy shielding? tefzel 18 gauge shielded wire is available at any avionics shop. it is much lighter, very tough and would make a much nicer job.
