We're running a 912 ULS, twin Bing carbs, about 46hrs since new.

On two occasions recently, going through power check before a flight, returning the throttle to idle, the engine cut.

OAT just above freezing, and wet grass (frost having melted).

Possible reasons could be Carb Icing / Carbs needing balancing / OAT around freezing but would appreciate any other ideas. Oil temp was above 50C.

First let us ask, What is the idle rpm you are returning to? Is it too low? Is this a new occurrence that just popped up? Has there been any recent maint. performed? Have the carbs been synced to see if there is an issue? This is one reason I like gauges over electronic sync tools. You can diagnose with them.
