Have a question for Roger or anyone else who has some experience with thermal wraps on the 912 exhaust. I have a Kitfox Model 4. I bought it as a partially assembled kit. The previous owner did a very nice job wrapping the exhaust. I'm flying it now. No problems but my light sport A&P with several Rotax schools has some reservations about my exhaust wraps. He said I should see what the experts say. So, should I remove the wraps or keep them the way they are? Thanks, James Thomas

I must know. Hundred owners with wrap including myself that don't have any issues and it has cut down on under the cowl heat. I have had wrap on for over 8 years.

Bottom line it's up to you, but the wrap shouldn't hurt anything if it was installed correctly. By that I mean that the edges are not over wrapped by 3/8". If it gets over wrapped by half way then that's too thick and heavy and will retain too much heat.

What's the purpose of wrapping the exhaust? Just to cut down the heat under the cowl?

    Hi Tom,

Cuts down on radiated heat and convicted heat under the cowl and off of wiring insulation and hoses. Keeps any excessive heat off on the short term and over the long haul.
