I've been fighting a poor running 912ul for months. It starts fine and developes normal power. It runs ok above 3000 rpm but is very rough between 1800 and 3000, especially when cold. After it has been flown it is better but still rough at lower rpm. So far I've had the carbs rebuilt at two separate professional locations, the gear box rebuilt, plug wires and caps replaced. Nothing seems to change to problem. I've synced it time and time again. I have separate cables to the cockpit so I can even tweek the sync which its running but nothing seems to help until yesterday as it was warming up and running rough I pulled the choke out slightly and accelerated the engine to 2500 rpm and it was smooth. I put the choke back in and pushed the throttle up to 2500 and it's rough. The throttle cables are advancing equally. So is it trying to tell me it's running lean at lower rpm ? The idle jet needle is out 1.5 turns per the manual. Any suggestions
Thanks

The idle jet right next to main jet must be perfectly clean (don't use a wire to clean it that will, damage it). Make sure the sliders go up and down easily and smoothly if not it can throw them out of balance.

Sure sounds like a clogged idle jet. That means it should not be synced at idle or it would show up on a set of gauges.

Remove the idle jet and clean it. You should be able to see through the center of the jet. Take a pice of 16 ga. Wire and remove about 2" of insulation. Now take one strand of that wire and run it down through the center and then flush the feet out with some cleaner.

I have had good luck cleaning them with an ultrasonic cleaner and carb cleaner or vinegar if there is green corrosion from moisture.
