... How would you know if air got into the system? ...

You will always get some small amount of air in the system.
The Oil Filter is full of air to start with but it is after the oil pump.
The first 10 inches of the Oil Pickup tube drained during the Oil change.
All of this is normal and not of any great concern.
The Oil pump moves about 3 liters a minute per 1000 rpm.
At a 2000 rpm idle the Oil filter will be filled in about 5 seconds.

Before the first start, hand-prop the engine a dozen or so turns.
You should see some Oil pressure appear on the gauge.
This will indicate the pump is primed and partially fill the Oil Filter.

Start the engine and watch the oil pressure closely for the first 30 seconds.
You may see the pressure fluctuates slightly in the first 10 seconds. But, probably not!
If it drops to Zero for more than 5 seconds, shut it down.
After 60 seconds the entire volume of oil has gone around the circuit at least once and any minor air bubbles in the lines are now gone.
