I had a similar problem and it turned out to be one of the throttle cables binding very slightly. As I slowly advanced the throttle one carb would lag slightly until that cable got past the higher friction point and the spring would catch it up with the other carb. It only happened when slowly advancing the throttle. The cable was pulled through the friction point easily but lagged a bit when it was pushed through it.

Thanks Tom, I'll take another look at the throttle cables for binding.

Roger, still wondering about the gearbox oil leak. Do you think this is coincidence? Certainly unusual for an engine with only 10 hours on it... my mechanic is suggesting a gearbox tear down and inspection.

If the gearbox is leaking it needs to be fixed. Just pull it and you can do a cursory inspection just to see if it warrants a deeper inspection.

On RV-12 the right EGT usually runs about 100F hotter because of close proximity to oil tank.

EGT's aren't affected by oil tank temp. Only fuel burn within the cyl. as those hot gases exit out the exhaust. This like air intake to a cyl., fuel to that cyl. and EGT probe location usually shows up on screen numbers. The oil tank is only in the 200'sF and the EGT's in the 1250-1475F range.
