For over a year now I have sometimes been getting very high VDO gage indicated oil pressure readings (pegged on high) on my 912 UL during take-off. As power is increased the oil pressure rises and than returns to normal after reducing to cruise power settings. I know these high pressure readings to be false. I have cleaned electrical connections, replaced my voltage regulator, replaced the spring and ball in my pressure regulator and (most recently) changed my VDO pressure sending unit. All of these actions made the problem go away for a time but the hight pressure indications return after a few hour.

The last flight I watched carefully both the oil pressure and temperature readings at the same time during take-off. The oil pressure pegged at high power and the temperature stayed in its normal low position, As I reduced my engine to cruise power the oil pressure dropped quickly and the oil temperature rose just as quickly. Sort of like an electrical connection was made for both the pressure and temperature indicating units at the same time!

I should mention that my engine has always been very slow to warm to the extent that this rapid rise in oil temperature might always have always been going on and I did not recognize it.

Any ideas what might be going on or suggestions sure would be appreciated since I am about at wits' end.

    The VDO readings are affected by poor grounds. Before spending any money put a wrench on ALL your grounds in the engine compartment and inside the instrument panel. They may be hand tight, but wrench lose so put a wrench on all of them. Sometimes if you live in a humid climate you may need to disconnect the wire connections and clean them with some scotchbrite. You can put a little dielectric grease on them to help stave off moisture corrosion.
