I am installing the tail pipe on a 914UL in a Magni gyroplane.

It appears that I need a larger diameter clamp. Repeated attempts to engage the bolt have been unsuccessful as the bolt rides against the outer diameter and won't engage the threads.

I cannot locate this clamp in the manuals or on Lockwood's website, regardless I believe I need to locate a larger clamp.

Hope someone can help me!

Tom

As fancy as the clamp looks, it is just a common Barrel Band Clamp, made by dozens of manufacturers.
If you feel better getting the same manufacturer, look for the name on the side of the clamp.
The size, usually in millimeters, will also be engraved on the clamp.
Look for a number in the 35 to 40mm range. Another 1-2mm should help a lot.

That said, getting it started might be easier if you engage a few threads and then slide it into position on the pipe before assembly.
Assuming you have the intended clamp, it should fit."

    Edit:
Continuing on the theory that the clamp is the correct one for the exhaust...
If this is a new, never used, clamp, Clamp it tightly on the slightly smaller tailpipe.
This may put a little "Stretch" into it and make getting it started on the larger muffler pipe easier.

Alternately, squeezing the clamp closed with a pair of large "Channel Lock" pliers may also do the trick.
