My 912ULS with a bullyhawk after marker turbo charger experienced total turbo failure yesterday... luckily on short final / flare after a 1 hour cross country flight (so lucky).

When I touched down I saw smoke pouring out of the exhaust .... I expeditiously taxied clear of the runway (Moontown Fly-In) - shut her down.

Fortunately nothing internal.... still have great compression on all cylinders... removed the turbo charger...

Where can I find/buy a replacement? I can't seem to locate a replacement unit...
Any suggestions? Should I put a factory unit in or purchase another one from Bullyhawk? This thing cooked at 185 hours.
I'd like to find the most reliable one possible.

Thanks guys!

is that a piece of metal or coking? try breaking it with a finger nail; if it is coke then the turbo may be repairable; the scavenge sump may have plugged with coke and that flooded the CHRA./hot side and compressor side.
You will need to look for coking flakes in the entire scavenge system, from the sump to the pump to the oil tank and every banjo bolt/fitting.
To avoid coking in the future make sure you cool the turbo down before shutting off the engine.

I am having the same problem on my 914, stripped out the turbo and no movement on the turbine shaft, cleaned out the
Turbo sump with no debris found, but the larger Pipe from the turbo sump to the scavenger pump had flakes of carbon, very difficult to remove with any certainty, (Left soaking in kerosene over night to loosen up the carbon,)
these two feed and return pipe get very close to the exhaust system and are totally unprotected from heat, so i propose to use fire sleeve and reflective heat tape to stop the oil coking up inside the pipe,
Also decided to go fully synthetic with 25 hours changes as the full synthetic has much better heat tolerance
    hope this information is useful,
