Practically all the CT owners in cold winter months use the aluminum tape. The colder it is like Montana may get more than one strip. Not a single CT owner that has been using this method since 2004 has had any issues. I used it on my CTSW for 11 years without issue and was able to keep my oil temps up over 200F with one strip of tape because our oil cooler is welded on right behind the coolant radiator so one strip does both.

    Hello All,

I have just joined the forums (and am an Aussie too). I have not long picked up a 2006 Sportstar with 100HP ROTAX (912) and I struggle to keep the oil temp up. :(

Is it worth getting the thermostat fitted? I live near Canberra, so it's cooler more than it's hotter, and I have ended a flight because the oil temp would not even get to the 75deg mark! :(

This tape that you speak of - any links?

    Thanks all.

    Hi John,
It's just thin aluminum tape that you can pick up from the hardware store. It has a paperback so you just peel it off and wrap from one side to the other on the front side of the radiator and or cooler. When warm weather temps come back just pull the tape off. A thermostat usually only goes up to 180F. Better to have oil temps over 200F to help rid the oil of contaminates.

OK - Where abouts - Just across the middle of the cooler? And just one strip across the front?
