Tachometer Erratic

I have a 912ULS with about 700 hours and a Dynon Skyview engine display. Just recently the tach readout has started acting erratic. At constant cruise speed it reads out fine, nice and stable, but during takeoff and climb it intermittently jumps to over 6000 rpm and then back down to normal. It may do this every 10 sec or so, then less often and finally not at all as I enter cruise mode. Any change to increase engine speed seems to start this sequence over again. The engine sound is steady and is definitely not overspeeding, but my audible alerts are driving me nuts.
Have checked the two tach wires from the engine and all seems good and tight.
