Hello,

I have a rotax from 1994 that is attached to a kitfox I just inherited. I would like to get this up and running. The aircraft hasn't flown in almost 20 years but the motor did run about 2 years ago. Total time is 77 hours. I was looking through all the service bulletins for the serial # 4152255 and there seems to be a significant amount.

I was wondering if there was someone with a little insight or if you could point me in the right direction to be able to make sure I get all the appropriate things done to the engine to ensure I have a safe motor.

I know the rocker arms were done.

Appreciate any help.

Hi, congratulations. I bought a 1999 kitfox with a motor about the same age and I learned how to work on Rotax 912 UL with it.
First I would encourage you to attend the Rotax course in Vernon. You will never regret that. There are several very good Kitfox guys on the Team Kitfox website. many of them have older engines and have worked on them extensively over the years more to make them performers more than any problems derived from age. The Rotax is a great power plant. There are some things in the set up for a Kitfox that are not "Great Ideas" though. The outboard carburetor arrangement will force you to learn the difference between balance and unbalance in your carbs and your prop. Your CDI ground connection may be the old type that had both CDIs grounded to a common bracket. This is BAD. Check it and correct that if your CDI is mounted so that the CDIs share a ground. a break here could stop your engine in flight. I posted pics of this on the other site. Your engine mount may be the older type that needs to be inspected for cracks, I posted pics on that as well. Would love to help you, its a great ride.
