Hi!

I just completed a cross-country in my 912UL-equipped CTSW. All went well for the entire 20 hours.

I have a question regarding the amps and voltage. The amperage oscillates between 6 and 15 amps, and the voltage fluctuates between 12.3 and 12.8 volts. It has a brand new battery. I did have my iPad and Stratux plugged into the 12V socket. The amps and volts would continue to fluctuate even when I took the plug out of the 12V socket.

Is this normal? If not, any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks in anticipation!

    Hi Kevin,
We need to try and clean the shunt wires. 2 small and 2 large. Then if that doesn't smooth things out we'll put another VR on the engine and see if that doesn't take care of it. It will have to be later this week.

Kevin, the Ducati regulator-rectifier is supposed to hold the voltage at 14 plus or minus 0.3 volts. I don't know where you are measuring your voltage, but if you measure it at the regulator output that's what it should be. If you get a good reading at the output, from there you can start moving downstream one connection at a time a taking additional readings until you discover where the voltage is dropping below specification.

Ken - I'm just reading off of the Dynon. Perhaps there's a better place to measure the voltage.

Roger - after you cleaned the shunt a few weeks ago, all was good with the voltage. It only started dropping and fluctuating on the trip to California. Will catch up to you later this week!

I don't have an ammeter in my Eurostar but the voltage is always 14V when the engine is running. It never varies. I have a fairly light electrical load: radio, transponder and GPS.

    Hi Kevin,
We'll check the VR output voltage. We can ever try another VR. It may just be the Dynon EMS.
