Rotax 912 ULS RPM Problem

Gentlemen,

When I switch to one mag I drop 200 rpms. When I switch to other mag I drop almost 500 rpms. How do I chase this down so I don't spend money unnecessarily? I looked at all the connections and everything looks good from that aspect.

Engine hours?
hours since the last maintenance? Have the carbs been checked and equalized?
hours on the spark plugs?

I have experienced the same phenomenon. I've got a 912 UL The first time it happened I returned to the hangar, swapped out the plugs, and the problem went away. Hassle, but hey what do you expect?

Subsequently I have had the same problem. After standing on the brakes and cooking everything off at 5000+ rpm for a few seconds the problem went away on the ramp. With the larger oil cooler I have to idle below 2500 rpm for 10-12 minutes before oil temp reaches 120°F, and I believe my mag drops may simply be ascribed to carbon buildup.
