Hi all,

I noticed a few drops of oil on the hangar floor that came from the fuel pump vent tube. You can also see traces of oil in the vent tube. I have not noticed an unusual increase in oil usage so not much is coming out at this point. Is it normal for small amounts of oil to get by the fuel pump oil seal and exit the vent tube or am I looking at an indication of the seal failure and should replace the fuel pump?

I have 165 hours on my fuel pump which is the latest Rotax fuel pump model 893115.

Thanks,

Further to my question in the previous post, I found the following Note in the Rotax (Heavy) Maintenance Manual Section 73-00-00 page 43 which may provide the answer to my question.

"A slight leakage on the venting line (7) fuel pump part no. 893110 can be attributed to a slight “sweating”. For a period of 1 minute after the engine has been stopped,
    no liquid must drip down.

In case of uncertainty determine the oil amount. An oil leak is when after 20 min engine run more than 0.5 ml of oil loss is detected."

I assume Rotax is taking about the “venting line” on the 893115 Fuel Pump assembly but I am not sure.

Rodger – what is your interpretation?

    Thanks,

    Mike

The Corona fuel pump can sweat a drop or two now and then as they say. The fuel may have mixed with some dirt and oil vapor residue at the end of the tube and look and feel slimy.

    Thanks for the reply Roger,

Update: It has been about 15 Hobbs hours since my original post with no drips. I do get a very small accumulation at the end of the vent tube and like you say looks to be an oil / fuel mixture, maybe some water.
