Hey y’all,

I’ve seen documented by Rotax that the 914 is able to maintain 115 HP up to 8,000 FT pressure altitude and a 100 HP up to 16,000 FT pressure altitude.

After having flown behind one for a quite a few hours at various altitudes in Idaho, I’m noticing I can only get 40” of manifold around 3,000 FT MSL. At 4,800 FT MSL it drops off to about 38” of manifold. At 6,500 FT MSL I was only getting 34.5”.

Shouldn’t you see 40” of manifold at 100% throttle setting (115 HP) at 6,500 FT MSL? Could airbox temperature be limiting this? Thanks!

    For info go here: https://www.flyrotax.com/services/technical-documentation.html
    and use the Operators Manual.

I usually fly low so don't recall on my engine.

Airbox temp would be one of the things I would look at first along with confirming my gauge is accurate.
100% power, 5,500 rpm is 100 horsepower. Continuous Page 2-2
    115% power, 5,800 is 115 horsepower, 5 minute limit.

Doing some reading: expect takeoff/115% up to 8,000' and continuous/100% to 16,000' Page 2-3

Airbox intervention temps are 160 degrees and 190 degrees. That may be two different drops. The manual is a little unclear.

    On one chart I am seeing 36" @ 100% and 40.5" @ 115% Page 7-10
On page 2-2 I see 35.4 continuous and 39.9 takeoff.

Are you getting the big jump in power when pushing the throttle slowly thru the 108% to110% spot ?

i have observed that if manifold pressure goes beyond 1370hPA, or 40 inch. RPM overshoot beyond 5900.
may be faulty turbochargers, waste gate sticky.
