Hi All,

I just joined the forum, looking for some Rotax advice. I'm looking at a plane that has a Rotax 912 serial # 4401012, with just 9 hours on it. Apparently, the original owner built it in 1999 and just put it in the hanger, and then the usual exchange from person to person not flying it. I'm early in the process and not to the point of getting a prepurchase inspection, but I'd like any help I can anticipating how I'd even go forward with an engine like that. I don't know if it was pickled before putting it away or not, but I'm guessing not. I'd imagine it will need complete replacement of everything that's rubber. Does it need the full 15 year rebuild?

Obviously, all of this will affect what I'm willing to offer for the plane. I'd appreciate any advice on whether to walk away, run away, or proceed in a thoughtful sort of way. How much do you think it would cost to make that a safe, reliable engine?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Michael
