I have a 2017 Tecnam P2008. 108hrs current. About three months ago I started having fuel leaks out the overflow trays. Long story short we have talked to Lockwood three times and done everything they have said. Change the needles, weighed the floats, drilled out the floats. We are on round four now and we are getting no help. I have finally went back to Tecnam for help to get Lockwood to do something. We still have fuel leaking out the trays when the plane is setting still. I would say it is a significant leak and fuel is puddled up on the floor every time I come into the hanger. Engine is running fine and always has run great. I am under warranty but I am not getting any warranty help, only advice with no offer to pay for the repairs. I bought a newer model demo so I would have a warranty but so far a no go on warranty help. Just bad advice so far. HELP Just want my engine fixed.

"drilled out the floats". Never heard of this.

Only a couple things can make carbs over flow.
Before we look at those things the fuel should ALWAYS be shut off when your done flying for the day and more important for a high wing with the tanks in the wing. If a carb leaks and with the head pressure from the high wing and the fuel there is nothing to keep it from draining if it leaks. Low wings aren't usually affected like this.

So here are the things that may be causing this.
The floats are too heavy and sinking. They should be under 7 grams as a set of two. This is supposed to be done at every annual now.
The floats are rubbing and sticking against the bowl side wall because the pin is bent.
The Viton tipped needle valve is worn, damaged or has debris keeping it from sealing.
The float armature is not adjusted to the proper level. The carb needs to be out of of the plane and upside down to check this and set it.

My money lies on one of these.

    I have a 2017 ... drilled out the floats.

As a matter of curiosity, what did you drill and what was it supposed to accomplish?

Roger is spot on, but i am also curious , drill where and for what reason?

Sounds strange. Some outside-of-the-box thinking here: Is there any aspect of the airframe's fuel system design that might cause the fuel line serving the carbs to become somewhat pressurized after engine shut-down? Residual heat after shut-down might cause expansion of the fuel trapped in the lines causing venting through the carbs?? Any one-way fuel valves, pumps, etc??? As Roger noted, the fuel head pressure associated with the high-wing configuration may be an issue.

Thank you guys for the quick response. We never had any leaks for the first three months. I am OK to turn off the fuel valve but I still want the leak fixed. Lockwood suggested turning off the fuel value as a fix and that is not acceptable. I cannot tell you about why we had to drill the floats out it was done by the mechanics at the Rotax repair shop under Lockwoods direction. Now Lockwood is suggesting I get new floats from Leading Edge Air Foils in Wisconsin. This is based on a service bulletin that was sent to me. I asked Tecnam the same question DHeal and they said they did not feel that was the issue. Right now we just soak up the extra fuel from the tray before we go out to fly. I will send Rogers response to my mechanic and see what he says. He is not a Rotax certified mec but at least I would not have to have my plane gone for six weeks like last time. Lockwood did not pay for the labor any way. I have never had such poor warranty response on anything I have owned so far.
