I am working on the process of configuring a Garmin G3X for the sensor data of a 914 and wondering if there is a standard practice for configuring the gauge markings.  For example, what do you configure the values for the Green, Yellow, or Red markings.  I have done my best guess based on the Rotax manuals but is anyone willing to share their values or what a best practice is for setting the markings and warnings?

Let's get a little more specific.

    What gauges are you configuring?

And, What warning values have you already determined to be reasonable?

Bill, Here is what I am starting with for my configuration:

    RPM - Green = 2000-5500; Yellow 5501-5800; Red+alert 5801+

    Oil Temp (deg F) - Green = 120-250; Yellow 251-265; Red+alert 266+

    Oil Pressure (psi) - Green = 15-90; Yellow 91-102; Red+alert 103+

    EGT - (deg F) Green 800-1700; Yellow+alert 1701-1742; Red+alert 1743+

    Coolant Temp (deg f)- Green 50-240; Yellow+alert 241-248; Red+alert 249+

Fuel Pressure (psi) - Green 2.2-5.0 -- no other markings set yet

MAP - no markings set yet

Am I on the right path?  Any suggestions or revisions?  FYI: this is a new engine.

    RPM - Green = 2000-5500; Yellow 5501-5800; Red+alert 5801+

Looks acceptable. Hopefull your Idle is Below 2000 rpm or you will need excessive use of the brakes during taxi operations.

    Oil Temp (deg F) - Green = 120-250; Yellow 251-265; Red+alert 266+

    Looks acceptable.

    Oil Pressure (psi) - Green = 15-90; Yellow 91-102; Red+alert 103+

I would move the Green up to 30.  15 is only for at idle and Hot.

    Yellow = 60-73

Red = 74+  74-102 is only for a short period on a frozen engine at the initial start and only at idle.

If you see this condition on any regular basis, an engine Oil/Block preheater is advised.

    EGT - (deg F) Green 800-1700; Yellow+alert 1701-1742; Red+alert 1743+

    Looks acceptable.

    Coolant Temp (deg f)- Green 50-240; Yellow+alert 241-248; Red+alert 249+

Looks acceptable except I would move the Green up to 120 to match the Oil Temp range.

They are going to track closely.

Fuel Pressure (psi) - Green 2.2-5.0 -- no other markings set yet

Looks acceptable. Remember that this is 2-5 ABOVE the AirBox Pressure.

If you do not have a Differential Fuel sender, the numbers will be Much Higher.

MAP - no markings set yet

    Green 0-35,  Yellow 35-39,  Red 40+

35+ is part of the 5-minute restriction.
